Our client seeks a Database Developer - DBA to join their team.
Role: To improve performance on the company's databases by investigating and fine tuning all the processes, database objects, data flows and architecture around the database and web server. Great opportunity to leverage your SQL DBA skills to gain hands on experience with Azure while managing a High volume and High Transactional production Database environment. The role will ideally suit a SQL Server DBA with good automation & fine tuning skills, and some relevant infrastructure experience (for example Windows systems administration, systems engineering, SSIS, Azure).
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Installation, configuration, upgrade & patch management
  • Backup and recovery - develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans
  • Develop and maintain maintenance plans
  • Database security - encryption and permissions
  • Performance monitoring and tuning
  • Troubleshooting
  • Future proofing/capacity planning - keep up to date with new technologies and raise/provide recommendations where applicable
  • Assist developers with DB design, performance tuning & SQL Procedure creation
  • Write database documentation, including standards and policies
  • Take control of DB deployments as part of the company's release process
  • Reviewing and publishing changes to the production environment all changes created by the development team using provided scripts and packages on a scheduled basis
 
Key Skills & Experience:
  • BSc (Hons) in Computer Science or similar, or MS Certified Database Administrator
  • 2+ years in a DBA role
  • MS SQL Server Administration experience
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Experience in SQL tuning and general performance enhancements for systems and code
  • Ability to organise and plan work independently
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
  • Good understanding of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
  • Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards  
  • Familiarity of reporting tools would be an advantage
  • Understanding of replication models/options
  • Database design skills in both OLTP and Data warehouse environments
  • T-SQL scripting experience writing complex stored procedures
  • Experience using SQL profiler
  • Troubleshooting and data analysis skills
  • Research and evaluate alternatives and recommend solutions for business issues
  • SQL performance and tuning
  • Knowledge in data warehousing, ETLs, SSIS & Automation
  • Responsible for tuning queries as needed for optimal response time using various methods such as script optimisation, file grouping, index creation and optimisation
