Our client seeks a Commercial Accountant who understands that payments are more than just transactions - they're a core driver of user experience, conversion, and revenue. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role for someone who combines strong analytical skills with deep commercial finance expertise, and who's excited to work at the intersection of data, accounting,
operations, and strategic decision-making.  
   
Key Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end tracking, analysis, and optimisation of payment transactions across global
  • markets and platforms.
  • Use advanced Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data modelling, dashboards) and BI tools to uncover insights, forecast trends, and support strategic decisions.
  • Identify trends in approval rates, decline reasons, chargebacks, and processing costs, turning data into actionable commercial insights.
  • Assess and optimise payment provider performance, recommending strategies that improve
acceptance rates, increase capacity, and reduce cost.
  • Monthly management reporting, supervision of preparation of accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, including detailed reporting for payment-related revenue and costs.
  • Deliver commercial reporting packs with variance analysis, revenue forecasting, and KPI dashboards that support strategic planning.
  • Partner with the Finance team to ensure integrity and accuracy of data across general ledger,
  • reconciliation, and payment platforms.  
  • Track and analyse revenue performance by region, product, and partner, identifying commercial opportunities and risks.
  • Develop financial models for new markets, pricing strategies, and cost-benefit analyses related to payment partners or platform enhancements.
  • Supervision of the Finance Team to ensure integrity and accuracy of data across general ledger and payment platforms.
  • Work closely with internal teams (Product, Tech, Support) to resolve operational issues and improve payment experiences.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure the commercial goals and payment strategies are
  • aligned.  
  • Participate in budgeting and forecasting cycles, contributing insights that support long-term financial planning and payment expansion initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong, commercially focused relationships with payment processors, banks, and acquirers.
  • Represent the Business at industry events and trade shows, identifying new technologies, partners, and opportunities.
  • Act as a key contact for external providers, driving performance reviews, commercial negotiations, and capacity planning.
  • Help evolve a scalable, diverse payment partner ecosystem to support business agility and growth.
 
Key Skills & Experience
  • 2-4 years' experience in a commercial finance, accounting, or data-focused role - ideally in fintech,
  • e-commerce, or digital platforms.
  • 3 Years post qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, or similar).
  • Advanced Excel proficiency, including pivot tables, complex formulas, scenario analysis, and financial modelling.
  • Experience with SQL or BI tools (e.g. Power BI) highly desirable.
  • A commercial mindset - able to turn financial and operational data into growth strategies and
  • performance insights.
  • Confident presenting findings and recommendations to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Proactive, curious, and comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Supervisory experience for more Junior members of the team .
