Our client seeks a Senior Protection Claims Assessor to join their Underwriting team.
This is more than a traditional processing role. Alongside assessing protection claims, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to underwriting and claims governance activities, support process improvements, work closely with reinsurers and help shape the ongoing development of the underwriting and claims philosophies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessing life and disability insurance claims and determining appropriate requirements and sign off in line with company philosophy.
- Reviewing complex and higher-risk cases, including referrals requiring advanced technical judgement.
- Analysing claims documents including medical, financial, occupational and lifestyle information to evaluate risk.
- Supporting underwriting governance activities, audits and quality assurance reviews.
- Coaching and mentoring colleagues to enhance technical knowledge and capability.
- Building effective relationships with reinsurers and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Supporting automation, system enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in life insurance underwriting and/or protection claims.
- Strong technical knowledge and decision-making ability.
- Experience assessing complex and higher-risk cases.
- A sound understanding of underwriting philosophy, risk management and reinsurance principles.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills and excellent planning and organisational abilities.
- Commercial awareness and excellent judgement.
- Professional qualifications such as ALU, ACII or Dip CII would be advantageous.
