Director of Advisory

Isle of Man
Permanent
Our client, a leading professional services firm, is seeking a Director of Advisory to lead and grow their advisory practice on the Isle of Man. This is a rare opportunity for an experienced advisory professional to take ownership of building a team from the ground up, shape the strategic direction of the practice locally, and play a pivotal role in establishing the firm's advisory presence in the jurisdiction.

The successful candidate will work in close partnership with the Advisory Partners based off-Island, acting as the senior on-the-ground leader for the advisory function. They will be expected to bring credibility, technical excellence, and commercial acumen to the role, and to act as a visible representative of the firm in the Isle of Man market.

Key Responsibilities
The Director of Advisory will be responsible for delivering on the Advisory Strategy across the priority service lines identified by the Partners, with a particular emphasis on insolvency and restructuring. Core responsibilities include:
  • Building, leading, and developing the advisory team on the Isle of Man, including recruitment, training, and performance management of junior and mid-level professionals.
  • Delivering on the firm's Advisory Strategy in the agreed priority areas, with a focus on insolvency, restructuring, corporate finance, transaction services, valuations, and forensic / dispute advisory work.
  • Taking lead responsibility for insolvency engagements, including corporate and personal insolvency appointments, members' and creditors' voluntary liquidations, administrations, receiverships, and advisory-led restructuring assignments.
  • Managing a portfolio of advisory clients, ensuring high-quality delivery, technical accuracy, and adherence to regulatory and professional standards.
  • Working closely with the Advisory Partners (off-Island) on strategy, client matters, technical issues, risk management, and team development, while operating with a high degree of autonomy day-to-day.
  • Driving business development activities locally, including building referral networks with banks, legal advisors, trust and corporate service providers, and other key intermediaries on the Island.
  • Contributing to the financial performance of the advisory practice, including budgeting, fee management, billing, and recovery.
  • Acting as a brand ambassador for the firm in the Isle of Man, raising the profile of the advisory practice through thought leadership, networking, and market engagement.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory frameworks, including the Insolvency Practitioners Code of Ethics, anti-money laundering requirements, and Isle of Man statutory obligations.

Candidate Profile - Essential
  • A recognised professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent).
  • A formal insolvency qualification (JIEB, CPI, or equivalent) is required, with current or recent licensing to take insolvency appointments.
  • Significant post-qualification experience gained within an advisory or restructuring practice, ideally at Senior Manager, Associate Director, or Director level.
  • Demonstrable experience leading insolvency assignments end-to-end, including statutory reporting, investigations, asset realisations, and creditor engagement.
  • A working knowledge of the broader advisory offerings - corporate finance, transaction services, valuations, and forensic services - sufficient to identify opportunities and oversee multi-disciplinary work.
  • Proven leadership experience, including team building, mentoring, and managing performance.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a track record of business development and client portfolio growth.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage credibly with partners, clients, regulators, and the courts.

Candidate Profile - Highly Advantageous
  • Existing experience working in or with the Isle of Man market, including familiarity with the Isle of Man insolvency regime, the Companies Acts, and the local regulatory environment.
  • An established network of professional contacts on the Isle of Man.
  • Experience operating in a partner-light or remote-partner model, with the maturity and judgement to lead day-to-day operations independently.
