Our client seeks a Head of Sales to join their sales team.
Role Profile: To manage sales activities to achieve sales budget and be accountable and responsible for sales performance and planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the Company's sales strategy including medium to long term growth planning across Island and export markets.
- As part of the Senior Leadership Team, attend monthly management meetings and any other meetings required of management. Contribute reports, ideas, feedback and solutions to business issues.
- Carry out Sales forecasting and provide input into pricing strategy at business level.
- Selling products and pro-actively making the business more profitable through price management.
- Maintaining and developing relationships with existing customers via meetings, telephone calls and emails.
- Identifying and visiting potential customers for new business for export.
- Negotiating terms of agreements and closing sales (after discussion with the Managing Director).
- Representing the business at trade exhibitions, events and demonstrations.
- Negotiating price changes, promotional calendars and activities to maximise sales of products.
- Reviewing your own sales performance, against targets as you gain experience.
- Demonstrate ability to interact and cooperate with all Customers and all colleagues.
- Create and deliver on Account Plans for major customers and sectors
- Focus on building long-term relationships, and work closely with Island based customers.
- Create annual and quarterly Sales Plans with clear, challenging and time-bound objectives for new and existing business
- Proactively analyse sales results by product and / or customer to identify opportunities to gain new sales or regain lost sales
- Provide timely feedback and analysis to Managing Director regarding sales performance.
- Create accurate, timely and useful summaries of sales results, opportunities, risks and activity for presentation at the monthly Management Meeting.
- Proactively analyse reasons behind variances in sales performance and create appropriate action plans in response.
- Gathering market and customer information and providing feedback on future market trends.
- Hold overall responsibility for the Customer Services function, acting as Line Manager to the Local Sales Team Leader.
- Provide support to direct report by ensuring relevant team and individual objectives are in place, performance appraisals are carried out and any training is provided where necessary.
- Ensure sufficient spread of skills exist within team to ensure sufficient cover for absences
- Maintain up to date information on retail ranging and pricing to provide regular gap analysis showing market trends, products, pricings and services.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business practices.
- Maintain accurate records of all pricing, sales, and activity reports.
Key Skills and Experience:
Essential
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a relevant sales role within FMCG, with demonstrable success
- Experience selling to UK retailers
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated and driven by achieving sales and profit targets.
- High level of literacy, able to prepare and present commercial proposals.
- Strong analysis and sales reporting skills.
- Able to effectively manage a small team.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and sales skills.
- Able to effectively build relationships.
- Able to identify and progress new business opportunities.
- Strong commercial awareness and customer focus.
- High level of numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail.
- Able to act on and use own initiative.
- Proficient in the use of IT systems and MS Office including MS Excel and Word to an intermediate or advanced level.
- Able to undertake travel to the UK and abroad on a regular basis
Desirable
- Educated to degree level
- Experience operating at management level
- Experience of the chilled food market
