Seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer - Cloud Services
Role Profile: You will be responsible for architecting, installing and operating hardware and software technologies hosting cloud services. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for the end-to-end delivery of the cloud suite comprising IaaS, disaster recovery, backup, network, security and associated services across virtualisation platforms and cloud stacks (including VMware, Nutanix AHV, HPE VME, KVM-based platforms or equivalent) and Azure Hub. Within an evolving technology and cloud services market place, the successful candidate will often investigate, design, deploy and automate new technologies, providing for current and future needs.
Working closely with customers to design and deliver complex, enterprise level infrastructures that integrate and leverage solutions. You will be involved in the full life-cycle, from initial engagement, solution design to ongoing third line support.
Experience in a senior infrastructure engineering role with responsibility for virtualisation platforms (such as VMware, Nutanix AHV, HPE VME, KVM-based platforms or equivalent), storage and networking is required. Relevant certifications and experience across major virtualisation platforms are highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- System design, administration, management and third level support of Virtualisation platform stacks and management/orchestration (e.g. VMware Cloud Director/vCenter/vSphere, Nutanix AHV, HPE VME or equivalent), storage and associated technologies; Azure Hub where applicable.
- Linux, Windows, SQL and other supporting technologies
- SDN and virtual/physical networking, including enterprise networking and firewall platforms (e.g. Cisco, Arista, Juniper; firewall technologies such as Cisco or Fortinet), and other associated security devices.
- Responsible for root cause resolution of complex technical issues
- Provide professional consultancy surrounding infrastructure technologies, for example cloud services onboarding.
- Raise third party support cases with appropriate criticalities, managing and escalating as necessary
- Proactively contribute to continuous service improvement with ideas and suggestions
- Mentor and guide other team members in their specialist areas of technology
- Draft and create documentation for new systems, services and technologies including procedures
- Prioritise and manage their own time alongside stakeholder expectations to deliver for internal and external customers whilst balancing business as usual activity and projects
- Assist the Commercial team in preparation of proposals, statement of work, and supporting documents for prospects
- Present Cloud Services vision, technologies and strategy to executives, technical management and technical engineers
- Maintain and grow relationships with staff, partners, to enhance customer value
- Liaise with customers and prospects regarding design of virtual infrastructures, networks, migration and backup/DR strategies
- Contribute to capacity planning, performance analysis and lifecycle management of cloud infrastructure platforms to ensure scalable, cost-effective and resilient services.
- Work with the Security Architect to (a) review cloud infrastructure assets, identify weaknesses and ensure appropriate security controls are maintained; and (b) support the implementation of the Security Strategy through effective integration and alignment with security technologies and tools within the Cloud domain.
- Support all of Cloud Services as part of an out of hours on call rota
- Due to the nature of this position, the postholder must hold a satisfactory Basic Police Disclosure.
Key skills and Experience:
- Expert knowledge of IT infrastructure, including enterprise or service provider compute, storage and hardware platforms, operating systems, virtualisation and security devices, with an understanding of lifecycle, performance and capacity management.
- Expert knowledge of backup, replication and disaster recovery technologies (e.g. Veeam, Zerto or equivalent).
- Professional level qualifications across multiple disciplines such as VCP, MCSE, CCNP (or equivalent in major virtualisation platforms)
- Proven background of providing great customer service
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate by phone, in person or written
- Shows initiative and acts independently to resolve problems
- Demonstrated high levels of accuracy with excellent time management and organisational skills
- Experience of customer relationships with the confidence and presence to successfully discuss and advise customers
- Demonstrated ability to achieve successful outcomes in handling difficult situations and work with various customers and management levels
- 5 or more years' experience in a senior systems administration or infrastructure engineering role; experience in a service provider or multi-tenant environment is desirable but not essential.
- Strong understanding of security-centric infrastructure design, including identity services (e.g. Active Directory), certificate services/PKI, vulnerability management and secure configuration practices within regulated environments.
- Knowledge and experience of ITIL, ISO27001 and PCI-DSS preferred
