Our client seeks a Senior Operations Engineer to join their team.
Role Profile: You will be responsible for taking the lead in providing operational duties for the hardware and software technologies hosting cloud services. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for taking ownership of the customer experience, providing professional communications to customers, break fix incidents, customer requests, service improvements, 3rd party vendor and support management.
You will take lead for ensuring the Cloud Suite remains in compliance with vendor solution releases and address Security threats as identified.
Experience in an Engineering role maintaining Virtualisation, Storage and Networking technologies is required. VCP certification or commensurate experience, and qualifications in other IT disciplines is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for administration, management and third level support of VMware vCloud, vCenter, vSphere, storage, and associated technologies, Linux, Windows, SQL and other supporting technologies, VMware NSX and physical networking, Firewalls and other security devices
- Responsible for root cause resolution of complex technical issues
- Provide professional consultancy surrounding infrastructure technologies, for example cloud services on boarding.
- Raise third party support cases with appropriate criticalities, managing and escalate as necessary
- Proactively contribute to continuous service improvement with ideas and suggestions
- Mentor and guide other team members in their specialist areas of technology
- Draft and create documentation for systems, services and technologies including procedures
- Prioritise and manage their own time alongside stakeholder expectations to deliver for internal and external customers whilst balancing business as usual activity and projects
- Maintain and grow relationships with staff, partners, to enhance customer value
- Liaise with customers and prospects regarding design of virtual infrastructures, networks, migration and backup/DR strategies
- Understand and comply with the licence and other regulatory rules, Data Protection Law and Health and Safety responsibilities applying to the position.
- Work in accordance with the safety procedures and safe working policies
- Undertake appropriate security awareness training covering information security, data protection, financial crime and payment card data and comply with their information security responsibilities.
- Due to the nature of this position, the postholder must hold a satisfactory Basic Police Disclosure.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Strong knowledge and experience of IT infrastructure, including hardware, operating systems, storage, virtualization, virtual desktops and security systems
- Strong knowledge and experience of backup and replication technologies
- Strong knowledge and experience of Microsoft AD and DNS
- Multiple associate level qualification such as CCNA, VCA or equivalent experience, and/or a professional level qualification (or working towards) such as VCP, CCNP. Proven background of providing professional customer service
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate by phone, in person or written
- Shows initiative and acts independently to resolve problems
- Demonstrated high levels of accuracy with excellent time management and organizational skills
- Experience of customer relationships with the confidence and presence to successfully discuss and advise customers
- Demonstrated ability to achieve successful outcomes in handling difficult situations and work with various customers and management levels
- 3 or more years' experience in an administration role, preferably in a service provider environment
- Knowledge and experience of ITIL, ISO27001 and PCI-DSS preferred
