Manx Gymnastics Centre of Excellence (MGCE) are looking for a Volunteer Director
About the Organisation A not-for-profit club dedicated to creating an inclusive, thriving environment for gymnastics and movement sport across the island. We employ a small team of staff and volunteers, serve several hundred members, and manage our own facilities, operating with the responsibilities of a small business within tight financial margins. As our small Board looks to replace a retiring Director(s) and bring fresh perspectives, we are seeking individuals who can commit time, contribute to decision-making, and take a proactive role in supporting the club's continued success. Good governance requires the Board to be representative of its community and collectively possess the skills, experience, and commitment needed for effective governance, including expertise in finance, risk management, human resources, and sport development etc. While candidates may have valuable skills and experience, the Board cannot guarantee that these will align with its needs at the time of appointment.
The organisation is currently entering a significant transformation phase, focused on: Facility expansion, Membership growth, Revenue generation, Governance strengthening, Digital modernisation.
The ambition is to develop the club into a sustainable, inclusive community hub, making movement accessible to all.
Role Profile: We are seeking to appoint one or two Volunteer Directors to join an existing board of five directors plus non-executive support. This recruitment will replace a retiring director while also bringing new skills, ideas, and perspectives to the board.
Responsibilities include:
- Contributing to strategic planning and decision-making
- Strategically supporting organisational growth and development priorities
- Ensuring effective governance and risk management
- Acting as a constructive and collaborative board member
About you:
Key Skills and Experience:
Particularly interested in candidates with experience in:
- Human Resources / organisational development
- Sports or community development
- Governance, compliance, or board-level roles
However, applications are welcomed from any individuals with relevant expertise or transferable skills who can contribute positively to the organisation. Previous board experience is advantageous but not essential.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 4-10 hours per month, Monthly directors' meetings, Quarterly full board meetings
- Flexible arrangements are in place, with many activities conducted remotely.
Remuneration
- This is a voluntary, unpaid position. - Reasonable expenses (e.g. travel) will be reimbursed where applicable.
